Author’s note: This poem is about how societal, familial, and personal issues are capable of tearing someone asunder. I stayed away from giving the character a name for one main reason; it lends this air of anonymity so that it becomes more of a universal idea that it could be anyone. It details some common issues that many people have had to go through and ultimately ends with the suicide of the unnamed character. The poem was written in free verse and follows no specific rhyming scheme.
The boy begins to weep
Reprimanded for his blemishes
Unable to vocalize expressions
The boy becomes a man
Broken and empty
No way to heal
No saving grace
Loneliness rots his ideals
Mental screams bounce off
The emptiness of his mind
Tensions crack his psyche
A warm May day
A rope hangs from the roof
Ironically
The object of his demise
Was the only support he knew
